Hi guys, it is always been exciting and very useful to Run Opera Mini on PC with poor internet connection like some mobile GPRS, EDGE. To Run Opera Mini on PC (Windows), there are various emulators available out there in the market. I will show you how to use MicroEmulator, Sun JAVA Wireless Toolkit, Mpowerplayer, KEmulator and SJ boy Emulator. These are different emulators with different features. It is your decision which one you like and use. I personally recommend MicroEmulator for everyone.

MicroEmulator to Run Opera Mini on PC

MicroEmulator snapshot

MicroEmulator is most popular featured emulator out there. The main features are –

  • You do not have to have a third party proxy software like proxifier to be under a proxy as many mobile WAP internet connections use proxy for their clients.
  • Download support – Yes! It supports download – though it’s tricky and we have to configure MicroEmulator to make it work.

Required Files

  1. Download Opera Mini 7.1
  2. Java 2 SE 1.5+
  3. MicroEmulator 2.0.4 – Download (or download latest beta version 3.0.0 from Here)
  4. Custom skin to run MicroEmulator at fullscreen – Download
  5. JADgen – Download

Step-By-Step Procedure

  1. Install Java 2 SE 1.5+ skip this step you already have.
  2. Extract downloaded MicroEmulator zip file.
  3. Open your windows context menu by Right-Click and New > Shortcut. Name it “Jar Loader” or something else you like.
  4. Open shortcut properties and Edit the target to

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\java.exe -cp microemulator.jar;lib/microemu-jsr-75.jar --impl org.microemu.cldc.file.FileSystem org.microemu.examples.fcview.FCViewMIDlet apps\opera-mini-latest-advanced-en-us.jad

  5. Also edit the “Start in” to path you have extracted MicroEmulator like

  6. If you want to run another version of opera mini and you dont have the jad file, then open JADgen > paste full path of jar > click Generate JAD. The jad file will be created beside the jar file.
  7. Now copy microemu-device-resizable.jar into folder “devices” inside the MicroEmulator directory.
  8. Double click on newly created shortcut. MicroEmulator window will be opened. Go to Options > Select Device > Select Resizable device > Set as default > click OK. Now go to file menu > Open MIDlet file… > Choose the jar file and open. Now Start it by double click it or press start.

You have to open the same jar file which you have mentioned it’s jad file in the shortcut file target. Otherwise you cant download any file in Opera Mini. If you want to run different version of Opera Mini, then you must specify the jad file in the target box in shortcut file.

If you want to use proxy in MicroEmulator, please see this article – Use Proxy in MicroEmulator.

Download and Upload Files

If you download or upload something, the default directory path is as below

If you want to upload something via Opera Mini, Just paste the file within this directory and choose the file from Opera Mini.

Download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your computer, to run java content.

After you have installed JRE, download this Mpowerplayer package and run open player.jar with JAVA.

Download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your computer, to run java content.

After you have installed JRE, download this KEmulator installation package and run it.

SJ Boy

Download and install Sj Boy from – Here

Mpowerplayer, KEmulator is actually based on MicroEmulator. SJ Boy emulator is good light weight but it do not supports download through Opera Mini or UC Browser. Sun JAVA Wireless Toolkit is also good, supports download, different skins available but it hangs a lot. That’s why I only recommend you MicroEmulator – the best.

  1. Hi. I have micro emulator, i have installed java as well. i can execute opera mini. but how to selec the saved-pages folder, there is no option

    1. Hii SRK,
There is no saved-pages option because you’ve not configured the opera mini shortcut file properly. I guess, you will not be able to download anything via opera mini too for the same reason.
Please follow the 8 steps of Step-By-Step Procedure written in this article.

    1. Hi rahul,
      Extract MicroEmulator to C:\microemulator-3.0.0-SNAPSHOT
Please explain your problem regarding JADMaker.
Extract MicroEmulator wherever you want. You have to use that path in JAR Loader shortcut file. Its relative.

  2. Hi, the latest Opera Mini is now OM 8, that’s what it’s telling me to download when I click on your link. Can I still proceed with your instructions and read OBML files on my Windows 7 netbook with the latest Opera Mini? If not, then can you help me download Opera 7? Thank you!

      1. Thanks for your prompt response. However, I can’t seem to find where to download J2Se 1.5+; all I can find on the Java website is j2se 1.4 and j2se 5. Do you mind pointing out where I can download it? Or tell me what J2SE version can be compatible for your instructions to work? Again, am running on Windows 7 starter using a netbook. Thank you again for helping me out!

  3. To make this work with java8, click start >run type %windir%\system32 rename java.exe to java.exe.OFF , then navigate to location of your installed java program eg c:\program files\java\jre1.8.0_xx\bin\ copy the file java.exe and paste it in %windir%\system32. Click on jar loader shortcut and it should now load up, downloads should work too.

  4. It gives the following errors:

    Registry key ‘Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion’
has value ‘1.8’, but ‘1.4’ is required.
    Error: could not find java.dll
Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.

    1. I changed the registry key value to 1.4, but the error gives
Error opening registry key ‘Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.4’
      Error: could not find java.dll
Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.

  5. Hi Arpan

    Many thanks for the tutorial
I’ve successfully managed to install OM8 on Windows 10 in Boot Camp. However, when I paste OM7 saved pages from my phone in the filesystem, OM8 can’t seem to read the files. I’ve also tried changing the files
from .obml to .obml16 without any success. I’ve no idea what I could have done wrongly.

    Thank you once again
